* William Henry "Tippicanoe" Harrison, the "simple frontier Indian fighter, living in a log cabin and drinking cider," and ninth President, figures in our Family History through a couple of lines of historical connection:
- He was aide-de-camp to Mad Anthony Wayne in his campaign against Tecumseh, and thus was with John McCollum at Fallen Timbers, the battle that opened Ohio to caucasian settlement.
- Col. William Rayen's Ohio Militia served under the command of Brigadier General Harrison. Rayen's militia probably included William Templeton, Jr., and certainly included John McCollum, his father-in-law. Other surnames linked to the Templeton family in Rayen's militia include Hine, Johnson, Leach, and Monteith.
