Jami Lynn Templeton

Jami was born in Topeka, Kansas, September 24, 1970, to Nancy Dean (Brown) and Gary Wayne Templeton. At the time of Jami’s birth, Nancy and Gary lived in Wichita Kansas, and enjoyed frequent visits of their close neighbors, Grandparents Zina and Vernice Moore. They returned to Topeka in the fall of 1972. It was there that Jami's school days began at Lowman Hill Elementary – the same grade school that her father had attended in the sixties.

The household was active, mixing her parents’ careers in Social Work and Radiology Technology with homework and outdoor activities like camping, hiking, white water canoeing, and sailing. Much time was spent with Grandparents Templeton and Brown. Grandparents Brown were always up for a fishing trip or water skiing, while Grandparents Templeton liked to travel across the United States in their R.V., stopping at every point along the way to visit relatives. Jami’s extended family, growing up, included four grandparents, six great grandparents, four aunts, four uncles, and five cousins. There was never a shortage of conversation on holidays.

Jami’s sister, Erin Michelle, is four years her junior. Their teachers often referred to them as, “the Templeton sisters”, and sometimes even remembered having their uncles and parents in class! Summers flew by filled with summer camp, dance classes, gymnastics, swimming lessons, and family vacations. Family, education, and adventure were the emphasis. The Templetons never missed dinnertime together.

Jami attended Robinson Middle School, and graduated Topeka High School in 1989. She attended both the University of Kansas in Lawrence, and Topeka's Washburn University, graduating with a Bachelor’s of General Studies in Psychology, Sociology and Speech Communications from WU in 1995. She was a member of Washburn Rowing Crew, and worked as a Rehabilitation Aid at St Francis hospital while in college.

Upon earning her baccalaureate, Jami began a career in broadcasting as an advertising sales executive at KTKA-49/WBKS television in Topeka. She enjoyed the elements of production, promotions, management, and getting to know the business community over her eleven years at KTKA.

In 2007, Jami accepted a position as Marketing Specialist and then Corporate Development Manager at a not-for-profit mental health center. In 2010 she and a co-worker established a foundation to benefit mental health programs in Topeka. She is committed to her involvement with civic organizations and philanthropy.

Jami was married to Julius Vance Nichols April 13th, 2002, at Gage Park Baptist Church. They divorced seven years later. She remained in the home they'd shared located near Lake Shawnee and she continues to participate in the many activities that the community of Lake Shawnee offers.

A social person, Jami most enjoys getting together with friends and family for gatherings. She is deeply rooted in Topeka through her many great friendships, professional associations, and with her city league volleyball team. Her best laughs, though, are shared with her sister Erin, and nieces Payton Lynne, and Hannah Lynne.1, 2
