Mr. Harry Key Rayen was born at Girard, Trumbull County, Ohio, November 28, 1870, and is a son of James and Rachel (Templeton) Rayen. His father, James, was born in Pennsylvania, and his mother in Austintown, Mahoning County, Ohio. His maternal grandfather, William Templeton served as "a valiant soldier in the War of 1812,"1 and was an honored pioneer of Ohio. James Rayen devoted virtually his entire active life to farm industry, and both he and his entire active life to farm industry, and both he and his wife were residents of Mahoning County at the time of their death. Harry's paternal grandparents were John and Sarah (Porter) Rayen, both natives of the old Keystone State, and John Rayen was a brother of Judge William Rayen in whose honor Rayen High School in the city of Youngstown was named.2 1.
