The
members of the Bar of Trumbull County filed a memorial
and salute to D.M. Hine with the Court upon his death. As it is the most complete
and succinct description of the man and his life we have at this time, here's
what his friends said about him:
"The Bar of Trumbull County was grieved to learn of the death of one
of its members, Mr. D. M. Hine, on December 10, 1924. Many of the Bar were
unaware of his sickness.
Mr. Hine was born in Paris township, Portage County, Ohio, December 20, 1856
on his father's farm. Like most farmer's boys he worked on the farm and went
to district school; in early manhood he attended Mt. Union College, then studied
law at the Law School of the University of Cincinnati, and in 1892 was admitted
to the Bar and began practice in the Village of Newton Falls, this County,
and continued to reside and practice law there until the time of his death.
He was married in 1893 to Miss Belle Templeton, who survives him.
Mr. Hine was a man of high character, sterling integrity, industrious and
a good lawyer. He held the office of Solicitor of his home village; helped
organize and for many years was a Director of the State Bank of Newton Falls,
and was held in high esteem by his neighbors and all who knew him. To his
associates at the Bar he was courteous and to his clients always a faithful
and true lawyer. In his death the Bar of this County has lost one of its valued
members and the community in which he lived, a good and useful citizen.
We ask that this memorial of him be placed on the records of the Court and
a copy sent to his widow as a mark of the esteem in which we, his associates
of the Bar, will always hold his memory."

According to his death certificate, Mr. Hine died of "shock – following operation for malignant prostate," so it's not surprising that his collegues were unaware of his illness.
